Create a turquoise gem to wear on your nail

Classic vintage jewelry, brooches and even buttons have an eye-catching appeal that modern fashion can't match. That quality is what catches our attention while thrifting or sifting through old family photos. Old styles aren't always the easiest to incorporate into contemporary fashions, but here's a way to show off a little vintage flair.
Decorating nails with a turquoise setting creates the illusion of having the face of a ring on your nail, especially when accentuated with silver detailing. Using a hard gel for a raised, gemlike result makes it even more realistic. You can substitute products you already have for those in the tutorial. Keep the decorations on your other nails light and simple, so all eyes focus on your turquoise-adorned nail.

Instructions
1. Start with a clean, dry nude or white base on the nail.
2. Dab one dot at each side of your nail with the black gel polish using a liner brush. Connect the dots with an oval using the same black gel polish and liner brush.
3. Color in the oval shape with the black gel polish and set under the lamp to dry.
4. Color in a slightly smaller oval with the blue polish in the center of the black oval with the short gel brush.
5. Before setting the blue oval, swirl in some of the muted mauve color (used here: Perfect Summer clear red-brown gel 011) with the dotting tool, and set under the lamp to dry.
6. For an added effect, swirl in a touch of silver polish (Arctic Freeze) once the mauve tone has dried and set.
7. Outline the blue oval with silver polish using the liner brush. Draw little angular dashes along the outside of the oval to create a wreath effect.
8. Using the dotting tool, dab three dots on each side that resemble handles. Allow to dry under the lamp.
9. Clean the dotting tool and apply dots of silver paint over the handles. Let dry.
10. Thinly line the top and bottom of the black oval with silver. Let air-dry and apply a gel topcoat. Cure under the lamp.
11. Apply a thick dollop of the Gelish hard gel onto the center oval to create a raised gem effect and cure underneath the lamp.
12. Seal the nail with the non-wipe gel topcoat and allow to dry.
13. If desired, decorate your other nails with vertical white stripes using the liner brush.
