Learn to use this nail product to make a DIY matte top coat

Matte manicures have such a modern look that even die-hard gloss fans have hopped on board the trend. If you like the matte style but don’t want to replace your polish arsenal, this DIY tutorial will be music to your ears.
Matte top coat polish is not always available in local stores, but clear acrylic powder usually is. Paint your nails with any color you like, and top them off with acrylic powder. It sets into the wet gel underneath, and you can buff it down to a smooth finish easily. It even makes nails stronger in the process. Win-win!
- Colored gel nail polish
- UV or LED lamp (Lumcrissy, not shown)
- Clear gel top coat (Gelish, Top It Off)
- Double-ended cuticle pusher
- Clear acrylic powder (Young Nails)
- Manicure brush
- Buffer
Fierce League
1. Apply two coats of colored gel polish, and cure between coats with the lamp.
2. Apply clear gel topcoat, and cover the wet polish with clear acrylic powder. Tip: Use the wide end of a cuticle pusher to spoon the powder over your nail.
3. Tap the excess powder back into the jar, and cure your nails with the lamp.
4. Remove excess powder by sweeping the manicure brush over your nail.
5. Carefully buff away any acrylic powder roughness with a buffer.

This classic color combination is perfect for Mardi Gras. To achieve this dramatic look, you’ll need a dark base color so the colors pop.
