Three ways to contour and highlight without a contour kit

Of all the makeup techniques available, contouring and highlighting can have the biggest overall effect on your appearance. Contouring works by creating shadows in targeted areas, such as under the cheekbones, along the jawline, or around the temples and upper forehead. The shadows give the illusion of depth.
Similarly, highlighting brings portions of the face into focus by attracting light. The tops of the cheekbones, the bridge of the nose, and the center of the forehead appear elevated when highlighted.

You don’t need a contouring and highlighting palette to achieve these effects, though. The following tutorial shows how to use powder foundation, bronzer and eye shadow in creative new ways.
Materials
- Powder foundation 1–2 shades lighter than your skin tone
- Tapered highlighting brush
- Bronzer

Instructions
1. Sweep a light shade of powder foundation under the eyes, onto the chin, and onto the center of the forehead with a tapered highlighting brush. By making these areas lighter than the rest of your face, you’ll create dimension.
2. Warm up the complexion and create a soft shadow along the cheekbone and under the jaw by applying bronzer with a fluffy cheek brush.
3. Use your ring finger to apply light-colored shimmer eye shadow onto the tops of the cheekbones, the bridge of the nose and around the temples. Tip: Gently pat the product into your skin to ensure it is fully blended.
