Grab that mascara brush & copy these ultimate hacks

The eyes are often the first aspect of the face that people notice. Your eyes can capture attention whether it be an intimate gaze or an intimidating stare. This is why, when applying makeup, even novices focus so much attention on the eyes.

Apply translucent powder between coats for tempura lash effect
This easy trick will result in longer and thicker lashes. Begin by curling the lashes and then apply one to two coats of mascara. Next, take a clean mascara wand and dip it into the loose translucent powder before brushing through the lashes. Finish by applying another coat of mascara.

Remove clumps between coats
Clumpy, spidery looking lashes aren't cute and appear unnatural. To prevent those unsightly clumps, simply brush your lashes between coats! After applying the first coat or two mascara, brush the lashes out with a clean mascara wand before applying another coat.

Do your bottom lashes first
When applying mascara, it tends to accidentally get underneath the eyes. This happens when mascara is applied to the top lashes and then you blink, causing your hard work to get smudged. Fixing this problem is as simple as starting by applying mascara to the bottom lashes instead of the top.

Begin with a clean wand
Clumps can form on a wand in just a day due to excess and dried mascara. For a precise and even application, you need to start with a clean wand. Take a makeup wipe or paper towel and clean the wand off. Then reinsert it into the mascara tube and go about the rest of your makeup routine.

Customize the wand
Just because some manufacturer made a mascara wand straight doesn't mean it has to stay that way. You'll have an easier time applying mascara if you don't have to keep your entire arm horizontal. Bend the wand using the tube as a guide, or wipe off the excess product with a makeup blotting sheet and bend it into a 90-degree angle.

How to layer multiple coats in 4 easy steps
When applying multiple coats of mascara, we tend to only get the same lashes with each swipe of the wand. To ensure that each lash is covered, apply every new coat in a different direction. Hold the mascara wand with the tip pointing towards the ear and apply, brushing the lashes in that direction. Flip the wand so the tip is pointing towards the nose and do another coat in that direction. Apply your final coat using the tip of the wand and brushing upwards. To finish, brush out the lashes with a clean wand to get rid of clumps.

How to prevent smudging on your eyelid
After spending time blending shades that perfectly accent your eye color, the last thing you want to do is mess it up by smudging mascara onto your eyelid. Take your index finger and place it over your eyelid while applying mascara. Any smudges will get on your finger instead!

Use mascara as eyeliner when your favorite gel eyeliner runs out
When your gel liner runs out or you've forgotten it and have to get creative, try this! Take a gel liner or any thin eye makeup brush and run it over your mascara wand. Apply your gel liner as you normally would and no one will be able to tell the difference. The color will still be strong and long lasting.

Don't be afraid of color
Tired of the same black mascara? Don't be afraid to add a pop of color using colored mascara. If you aren't ready to try that on both the upper and lower lash, start with color on the lower lash line only.

Clump mascara together for an edgier look
Some say clumpy mascara is a no-no, but we couldn't disagree more. For certain edgier looks, clumps just feel right. Use an older, and therefore slightly drier, mascara to easily achieve this rock 'n' roll effect.
