Too many of us spend our lives afraid of color. Playing it safe with neutral tones in makeup can be a reliable way to go. But the problem is, relying too heavily on neutrals can also lead to some more boring makeup looks — and that's not something anyone wants.

Dipping your toes into the world of color, however, can seem pretty terrifying. Taking the plunge and going from taupe to teal is certainly an intimidating step. Many people require a little push of inspiration in the right direction. If you're thinking of moving toward color but not sure where to start, this sunset inspired tutorial could be just what you're looking for.

Materials
- Rainbow eyeshadow palette (Morphe, the James Charles Palette)
- Fluffy eyeshadow brush
- Flat eyeshadow brush
- Metallic blue pressed pigment (L'Oréal Infallible 24HR Eyeshadow in Endless Sea)
- Frosted white eyeshadow (MAC Eye Shadow in White Frost)
- Detailer eyeshadow brush
- Black mascara (L'Oréal Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara)
- Pink nude lipstick (Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick in Pillow Talk)

1. Apply a matte, creamy yellow eyeshadow, such as Tune, with a fluffy brush, working it into the crease of your eyes. (All colors in the tutorial are from Morphe, the James Charles Palette.)

2. Take a brighter yellow shade, such as Bee, and build up the color in the outer corners of your eyes.

3. Build up a bright orange shade, such as 518, into the crease of your eye.

4. Take a deeper orange shade, such as Rusted, and intensify the depth of color once more. Layering the tones ensures you can achieve a more seamless blend.

5. Apply a bright, matte red eyeshadow, such as You're Kidding, over the top to achieve maximum intensity throughout the color spectrum.

6. Apply a mid-toned blue eyeshadow, such as Playground, to the outer half of your upper eyelid with a flat brush.

7. Use a finger to apply a shimmery blue pressed pigment to the inner half of your eyelid.

8. Apply a white shimmery highlight to the inner corner of your eye using a small detailer brush.

9. Apply a warm brown matte eyeshadow under your lower lashline to add intensity to the look and make eyes appear bigger.

10. Add a flash of matte blue eyeshadow on the lower lashline to make the look more balanced.

11. Apply black mascara to top and bottom lashes.

Apply some black strip lashes for even more drama.

12. Finish the look with a pale pink nude, matte lipstick.
