How to do a DIY oily scalp treatment

Caring for your scalp is just as important as caring for your face. Your scalp produces oil as a way of protecting itself, but if your sebaceous glands get a little too happy, your scalp can become oily. If you're feeling like you need to wash your hair more than normal, then this scalp treatment may do the trick.
In this tutorial, you'll learn how to combine essential oils with a carrier oil to nourish the scalp and control oil production. Essential oils not only smell good, but they also have healing properties. In this treatment, you'll use lemon to balance oil production and ylang ylang to strengthen hair follicles.

A carrier oil, such as grapeseed, is very lightweight and prevents essential oils from irritating your skin. Because you'll keep the oil mixture on your hair for 10 to 20 minutes, get a sheet mask or some gel eye patches to turn the experience into a mini spa treatment.
Materials
- Mixing bowl
- 2 or 3 pumps grapeseed oil
- Eye dropper
- 3 or 4 drops lemon essential oil
- 10 drops ylang ylang essential oil
- Comb, optional
Directions
1. In a small bowl, combine all three oils. Mix together thoroughly with the end of the dropper.
2. Part your hair with the comb and use the eye dropper to deposit the oil onto your scalp. Repeat in sections as needed.
3. Gently massage the treatment oil into your scalp with your fingers. Don't be too rough; you don't want to scrape your scalp.
4. Relax for 10 to 20 minutes while the oil does its magic. (You can look at your phone, put on a sheet mask, sip a cool drink or read.)
5. Shampoo and conditioning your hair as normal.
By adding this treatment to your hair care routine weekly basis, you'll enjoy the aromatherapy benefits along with a healthier, less oily scalp.
