10 stunning braided hairstyles for short hair

I love braids. I also love my short hair. But, the two don't always go well together, at least I didn't use to think so. Fortunately, I've discovered a few different braids that work on both long hair and short. Happy day!
If you're tired of messy buns and ponytails, when you want your hair off your neck, you'll love this list of braids you can use to spruce up your hair routine.

1. Dutch braid on short hair (h/t The Beauty Department)
The chunky twists in this braid are pretty because they show off the different tones in your hair. The secret here is to tuck the last bit of hair (the bits that are too short to braid) up inside the ponytail.
2. Headband braid
You get four different types of headband braids with this video. It's a simple way to add a little bit of attention to the front of your hair. This style is a great option for gussying up in a hurry.
3. Fishtail braid
The fishtail braid is great for short hair because it lies flat. You can keep your hair out of your face without any extra poof. This video is a two-parter (though, you can skip the second video if you want to keep the braid simple).
4. Braided bangs
This sweet bang is fantastic because it takes less than five minutes, and it looks like you spent a lot of time pulling it together. Bonus: you only need a bobby pin (or a few) to keep the braid in place.
5. Lace Braid
If braiding is not your strong suit, you'll love this one. A lace braid only adds hair on one side, so it's a bit harder to lose track of where you picked up hair last. It's simple and pretty.
6. Macrame braid
This braid works best if you have smooth hair. You can still do it with curly hair; you'll just need to add a little product first. This braid is so simple that you have no excuse not to try it out!
7. Side French braid
If you want to rock a messy braid, the French side braid is a good choice. This hairstyle is great for second (or third) day hair because it won't look as dirty, plus the braid keeps the hair off of our face.
8. French-braided ponytail
The model in this video has long hair, but you can quickly adapt the style to a shorter hairstyle. Just braid less and pull the shorter bits into a ponytail.
9.Waterfall braid
My kids were blessed (sometimes cursed) with my curly/wavy hair. This twist is a simple way to spruce it up, and I don't have to spend forever combing it out. Try changing up the angle of the braid for different looks.
10. Ladder braid
If you can do a waterfall braid, you can do the ladder braid. Because you're sticking with the top parts of your hair, this is a simple option for a shorter hairstyle.
