Here's everything you should know about using a beautyblender

The little pink teardrop makeup sponge has become synonymous with beauty. Of course, knockoffs abound, but if you've used one of those, then you know what makes a beautyblender truly unique.
While it's probably the most versatile tool in your makeup kit, occasionally a few new tricks pop up to make it even more necessary. Check out these tips for getting the most out of your trusty friend.

Apply foundation
You might be used to applying foundation with a brush rather than a beautyblender. The following video tutorial goes over how to use the beautyblender to apply foundation.
Never use it dry
As with all new tools, it's important to start with the basics. The beautyblender must (emphasis on MUST) be used wet. Run it under water and squeeze it a few times to make sure you've completely saturated it. Next, squish it several times to make sure it doesn't drip. Now, you're ready to go.
Each part has a purpose
It may not look like it, but when you hold a beautyblender in your hand, you actually have different surface shapes to help make getting ready easy. Use the pointy end around tight corners, under your eyes and below your mouth. Use the rounded bouncy bottom to cover wide surfaces, such as your forehead, cheeks and chin.
Wash it often
As much as you might hate to clean your tools, a beautyblender must be cleaned regularly or it will mildew and even disintegrate. The video shows how to properly cleanse it.
Remove extra powder product
If you accidentally end up with too much powder or blush on your face, a damp beautyblender can fix that. Lightly dab against any powdery surface, and the moistened sponge will pick up the offending product like magic.

Store it in the open
It's pretty, right? And you know what happens when you tuck a wet item into a tightly closed space – old! Suppress every neat freak urge you have and let your beautyblender dry in the open air. The manufacturer even recommends keeping the original plastic packaging, so you can let the sponge air dry on top of it.
Beauty blenders come in all forms
Did you know they've also come up with vibrating beauty blenders? Check out the video below that shows this new product put to the test.
It's not a normal makeup sponge
The beautyblender was designed by makeup artist Rea Ann Silva to be hydrophilic and absorb water. In comparison, most makeup sponges actually are designed to repel water.

Don't forget to replace them
Beautyblenders are not without bacteria after use. Remember to wash them after each use and replace them routinely. It's recommended that they are replaced every 3 months
