1. Push back your cuticles (h/t ImGirlYouDontKnow)
One of the most important things, especially if you have shorter nails, is to push back your cuticle, according to ImGirlYouDontKnow. This will expose more nail. If you paint over the cuticle, it can cause the polish to rise and chip off. Just make sure you are gentle with your cuticle, they're there for a reason.
2.Use liquid latex
If you find that you are continually getting nail polish on your skin, try using a liquid latex (available at beauty stores) around your nails. You can get a bit of paint on the latex, and it just peels away. Don't forget to apply it to the top of your finger if your short nails make you prone to accidentally getting polish there too.
3. Paint the tips of your nails
Make your mani last longer by covering the top edge of your nail with polish too. This seals the polish on the nail completely, so you are less likely to get chips.
4. Shape your nails
If you opt for shorter nails, the best nail shape for your hands will follow the natural lines of your finger, according to Fashioners. Opt for oval or round nails to make your short nails look longer.
5. Choose the right polish
Having short nails is certainly more convenient, but if you want to make your nails look longer, opt for a matte polish in a neutral or pastel (but avoid white).
