1. Make sure their skin and your hands are squeaky clean
No matter what, you always want to make sure that you are starting with a nice, clean slate for a flawless application. If you don't have a full spread of cleansers, toners and moisturizers handy, make sure to at least have some makeup remover wipes to prep your partner's face. You'll also want to apply hand sanitizer or thoroughly wash your hands before applying any makeup, as you don't want to spread any bacteria or germs onto your partners face.
2. Look carefully after applying foundation to ensure even coverage
Because you are most likely above the person you are applying makeup on, you won't be looking straight at a few hidden regions like around the nostrils and under the jaw. Step back and do a once-over after applying foundation to ensure you haven't missed any visible spots. You can also ask your partner to lift their chin and tilt their head back slightly for better visibility
3. When applying makeup either above or below the eye, gently pull the skin taut to prevent creasing
Although you don't want to tug too hard at the delicate skin in either spot, chances are you'll need to create a tiny bit of tension to get rid of any creases or loose skin for an even makeup application. Generally if you're applying makeup under the eye, such as concealer or eyeliner, you'll want to place one finger on the cheek and gently pull down. Same goes for up top, where you'll want to brace one finger on the outer edge of the eyebrow and pull up.
4. The trick to applying eyeliner on another person depends on type
You'd use different techniques for eyeliner application on yourself, and the same goes for applying on another person. If you're using a pencil or powder eyeliner, the best application is short, gentle motions along the lash line instead of one continuous application. However, if you're applying liquid liner, make sure to do one quick and even stroke as much as possible. You can always go back and fill in any jagged edges for a smoother-looking line.
5. It's okay to mess up, there's a fix for that
It happens to the best of us. If you happen to goof when applying eyeliner on someone else, use concealer to hide the mistake and clean up any ragged edges. You may have to layer concealer a few times to hide the eyeliner if it's a dark shade, and you'll want to blend out the edges to make sure it's not obvious.
6. Carefully sweep down instead of up when applying mascara to someone else
The best way to apply mascara on top lashes is to stand next to your partner, bend the applicator to a right angle and then sweep down and away from the eyelid gently. When defining the bottom lashes, have your partner look up and sweep away from the eye and down. Short, gentle movements are best to avoid smudging mascara everywhere.

7. Dab away lipstick if you've colored too far out of the lines
When applying lipstick to someone else, you want to apply lip liner and lipstick as though you're gently sketching. We get pretty used to the shape of our own mouths, so there's a chance you might color a bit too far outside of the lines or smear lipstick. Rolling a q-tip over the spot will lift and remove the lipstick with ease, and you can touch up with a gentle dab of concealer to hide any discoloration.
