Ombré lips are in, and here's how to achieve the perfect look

Just when you thought you'd run out of ideas for polishing your pout, the ombré lip trend took off. The beauty of this look is that you probably already have multiple shades that can be combined to create a heavenly holiday look.
There are two really important aspects to creating a believable ombré. First, pick two colors in the same shade family. Next, blend the edges to create a gradient transition between the shades.

1. Exfoliate and moisturize your lips first
Every lush lip look begins with a careful exfoliation. Flakes can grab color and make it appear uneven, so apply a moisturizing lip treatment first and let it absorb before adding color.
2. Neutralize your natural color
To get the full effect, you want to neutralize your existing lip color by applying concealer to your lips. This provides you with a clean palette.
3. Line your lips with your darker shade
The deepest color in an ombré lip is on the outside edge. Line your lips completely, then add a bit more color on the outer edges (leaving the center alone for now).

4. Apply your lightest color in the center
Imagine you're trying to highlight the center of your lips. Apply your lighter lipstick shade just to the center and press your lips together to balance the color. You don't need a lot of color here, so tread lightly.

5. Feather the colors together with a lip brush
If the colors still seems too separated, take a lip brush and lightly drag the darker shade into the lighter one. Be careful not to blend them too much. You still want the center to look lighter.
6. Clean up any frayed edges
The final step ensures that your lip line is crisp and sharp. Use either a pointed cotton swab or a clean lip brush to fix any smudging.
